May 2017

The opening of the third solo exhibition of the young artist Evgeny Batoev took place on May 31 at the San Stefano Plaza complex.

The management of the complex provided a space outside the San Stefano Gallery that showcases an industrial interior adding a raw unfinished look to the expressive paintings of the artist. A total of 12 pieces of art on canvas are presented – the technique is acrylic painting on both – canvas and textile.

Batoev grew up and graduated in London. The art critics determine him as a discovery on the Bulgarian art scene. Accоrding to the art expert Vesela Nozharova, Batoev’s art is untypical for the Bulgarian reality. She describes him as an author that intuitively expresses а Bulgarian abstraction. “With the presented paintings, Batoev takes a technological step towards the classical white canvas with creations that carry a more densely artistic and responsible approach.”

The title of the exhibition 'Stay Away from Heaven' is a game of words taken from the Led Zeppelin song 'Stairway to Heaven' . According to the author, the concept behind it is to make us think of heaven less while we are still on planet Earth and instead to be able to maintain our inner peace.

The exhibition will be open to the public from May 31 until May 13 at the San Stefano Plaza, 22, San Stefano Street, floor 2.
